During this podcast episode from February 07, 2019, Joe Rogan and Sam Harris discuss how Cancel Culture is taking place at that date in time. They discuss how difficult it is to see a true apology and one that is just meant to save someone's job. They also talk about how things looked different in the past and then those same issues get held to society's definitions and standards today.

Joe Rogan has recently been "Canceled" for his stance on vaccines during the COVID-19 Pandemic as well as some racial slurs he has used on his show. There has been a call to Spotify to remove his podcasts to which he himself removed the episodes with racial slurs. He has apologized for his racist remarks, but not for his personal stance on vaccines.

This is the most recent of a 47 episode podcast series in which the hosts Rob Rosen and Desma Simon talk with people who have recently been "Canceled." This short episode gives light onto why they began this series and explains why they are taking a break from the series, but there are 46 other episodes which they dive deep into who gets "Canceled," why, and what happens when someone gets "Canceled." It is important to mention that not only people can get "Canceled," but so can brands.

This article in The New York Times gave a brief history of where the term Cancel Culture comes from as well as a detailed theory of the goods and the bad that come from Cancel Culture in our society today. The article mentions how Black Lives Matter plays a role and how a lot of our issues today get grouped together under a blanket term when really issues are different.

Television Example

Gina Carano played Cara Dune in the hit series The Mandalorian. After co-staring in the Disney+ series, and having the idea of having her own spin off show, the star made some post on social media stating that "Being a Republican in the U.S. in 2021 is similar to being Jewish in Nazi, Germany. " This sparked the hashtag #FireGinaCarano causing her to be removed from the storyline and was fired from Disney+. She's been picked up elsewhere and has an unrelated movie coming out and is also taking to social media to raise awareness of how being "Canceled" due to expressing one's own beliefs has had an affect on her.

Television Example

Comedian Dave Chapelle made jokes on his Netflix show "The Closer," towards LGBTQ+, specifically against Trans People, mocking the #MeToo movement as well as Asians and the COVID-19 Pandemic causing him to be "Canceled." The star has fought back against being "Cancelled" and has even signed on for another extended season. The co-chief executive of Netflix, Ted Sarandos, has even gone on to defend Dave Chapelle saying that "he doesn’t believe there is a relationship between art and harm" in regards to the star making these jokes. Dave Chapelle also has taken a stand against Cancel Culture doing what he does best, making fun of the issue.

Book Example

"

Cancel This Book shares an opinion of Cancel Culture being a current genocide of such and a social and cultural cleansing. He discusses politics and shares stories and statistics to share his thoughts.

Book Example:

Cancel Culture highlights the issues that come along with Cancel Culture while expressing his ideas through free speech and showcasing how harmful Cancel Culture is in our society today.

Online Example

Elon Musk tweeted this infamous tweet calling for the "Canceling" of Cancel Culture after he tweeted a post calling for people to "Take the Red Pill." The mother of his girlfriend tweeted in response to his political post to which he responded with his "Cancel Cancel Culture" tweet. On the thread of this tweet he is met with a mix of responses mostly calling him a right-winged power player or a "Trumpy." He was never "Canceled" for his posts, but he has had a lot of backlash for his choices.

Online Example

This is an online article from Forbes, giving insight into the risks of Cancel Culture and what we post online. This article also gives some tips and tricks on how to be careful with posting, stating to "Be Careful: Cancel Culture is Here to Stay."
